Babo Branch Cordon System as a new approach in modern viticulture | 2010-01-14

szolo
Grape existed on the Earth before human beings appeared. As far as we know viticulture developed together with humans. No one knows when pruning first started, but one of the reasons could be to get fruit close to the ground, thus making fruit collection easier for ancient mankind. Pruning controls yield in viticulture. 80–90% of cane produced by vine-stock is pruned during plant dormancy in winter. The result of such intervention is increase in yield, in length of aerial shoots, and decrease in number of clusters. As viticulture and science emerged our knowledge was extended regarding the effect of the pruning. Continue to PDF részletek »

Breeding of table grape varieties in Hungary and beyond our national borders | 2008-03-05

Témák: szőlő , nemesítés

Edit Hajdu Introduction Table grape is a delicious fruit for man as well as being his food. Grape is valuable because it helps in digestion and stimulates the appetite. Its consumption is enjoyable which derives from the pleasant sugar:acid ratio, the aroma components and the crisp flesh of the berries. The constituents of its composition, such as minerals, sugars, enzymes, acids and vitamins etc. serve our health. The decorative appearance and the beauty of the clusters and the variable form, colour and waxy bloom of the berries make it one of the most beautiful fruits. It is the characteristics of having loose tissues that is in the background of the intensively developing vine trunks, clusters and berries of table grapes which is also the explanation of the frost susceptibility of the plant. Owing to this trait it follows necessarily that production is preferably carried out in light-rich and protected areas with a high heat sum. Therefore the main growing areas are situated in the southern countries of Europe and in the southern hemisphere of the world. In the temperate climate zone it is sheltered home gardens and week-end house gardens that provide favourable habitats for them. részletek »

Centenary of Vajdahunyad Castle | 2007-09-24

terem
2007 saw the celebration of 111 years of the foundation of the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture and 100 years of the opening of Vajdahunyad Castle, the home of the museum. The foundation of the museum and the birth of Vajdahunyad castle were the results of several favourable coincidences, in particular the success of the Millenial Exhibition in 1896. The show presenting the country’s agriculture was also highly popular, while at the same time the previous concept of an independent agricultural museum also gained momentum. An important step towards the realization of this aim was the passing of Act 36 of 1900, according to which 2.4 million crowns were guaranteed ‘for the construction of a permanent building to house the agricultural museum’. részletek »

Szabó, Z.1, Szabó, T., Gonda, I., Soltész, M., Thurzó, S., Nyéki, J. The current situation of sour cherry production and possibilities for develoopment Sour cherry production in the world Traditionally, sour cherry production came into being on cooler areas of the temperate climate zone in the northern hemisphere and cultivation in the southern hemisphere has started only recently. A very great part of the world’s sour cherry production is processed. Accordingly, when choosing the variety it is the requirements of the processing industry that tend to prevail. The volume of sour cherry production started to rise sharply when the processing industry came into being and a solution was found for mechanical fruit harvesting, which is indispensable to be able to sell sour cherry for the industry at a relatively low price. részletek »
